About Skip Bin Hire in the Northern Rivers Region

Skip Hire - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What items are not allowed to go in the skip bins?

    • No asbestos or fibro products
    • No liquid wastes—paints/oils
    • Any fuels/chemicals in any form
    • Tyres
    • Gas bottles/fire extinguishers
    • Soil waste—soil is excepted but in a designated bin with no other waste

These are trackable waste products, and if found in the skips, they will incur an additional fee per item.

  • What size skip bin do I need?

As a guide, 1 m³ is equivalent to one trailer or large ute load. If you believe you have 4 trailer loads, then we would suggest you need a 4 m³.

  • When will my skip bin be picked up?

This will depend on the hire period associated with your bin. You will, however, receive a courtesy call from our staff the day before to see if the skip is ready for collection. If you fill in the skip bin before your hire period expires, give our staff a call and we will come and collect the skip for you or deliver you a new skip and take away the full one at the same time. Something like this.

  • How and when do I pay for the skip bin?

Payment is required on or before delivery of the skip bin. We accept cash on delivery and credit card or direct debit when placing an order.

  • Are there any additional or extra charges?

If you need to keep the skip bin for longer than the 2-week hire period for household waste, there will be an extra charge of $100 per week after that.

We have weight allowances on our bin. If your skip happens to exceed the weight allowance the extra weight is charged out on a pro rata basis of $352 per ton for mixed waste and $154 per ton for masonry waste.

If the skip bin is overloaded and we are unable to collect it (it is a legal requirement that we must be able to cover and restrain the load for safe transportation), you may have to remove waste that is higher than the side of the skip or hire another skip bin for the extra waste.

If you have arranged to have the skip bin collected on a particular day but we are unable to access the skip bin for collection (e.g., a car parked in front of the bin), there will be a $100 surcharge.

  • To what level can I fill the bin?

Please only fill the skip to the top of the bin. If the waste is higher than the sides, it is not safe or legal to transport the skip back to the yard for disposal.

  • What happens to my waste?

Your waste is taken to our Council-approved and EPA-licensed waste transfer facility. Here is where we sort and recycle all of your waste.
